How to Clean A Horse's Trough


Yes those really do need a good cleaning! Horse troughs need to be cleaned atleast once a month I would say. Now the weather and how messy your horses are does dicate how often you clean and how thoroughly it needs to be done. Here we go, getting a little gross, but....the bottom of the tank usually gets green and slimy with allgae. Also you will find hay that your horses dropped, little bugs that drowned, etc.

Catching Up

Howdy!

Here I am back to the world of technology! I haven't even been on the computer for a week, I feel so awful since I have tons of emails that need to be answered, I know what I will be doing atleast all day today ;)

So here's the news and happenings in my life!

1) I held a Bridal Shower for my future sister in law, it all turned out wonderfully! We used the Stage Coach Station at the Chisholm Trail museum, loved the western ambiance of the room and so did all of the guests. I will be posting pictures as soon as I load them to my trusty comp.

2) Planning out Etiquette lessons for my youngest brother's Highschool Homeschool Co-Op, should be a lot of fun! We already have atleast 5 students for that, can you believe they are all boys?! I think it's wonderful that they have an interest in cultivating their manners as young gentlemen.

3) And the last, we have more puppies! Australian Shepherd to be exact ;) They are young right now, but get in your orders because they won't last long!

That's just a few of the crazy things that have been going on in my life recently, although not all by any means! Now comes the rest of the wedding planning, here I come more late nights and rushing! But I love every minute of it so why complain?

   Ever wonder what a country girl is really like? Ever wonder what a cowgirl does everyday or even what she wears from working in the fields or riding horses to going out on the town? Would you like to know from those country girls or cowgirls? That's my plan for this series! I'm bringing to you pictures and ideas from real country girls, farm girls, and cowgirls. Straight from the horses mouth...or almost ;) You don't get any better than that!

Pioneer Days at the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum

Howdy ya'll! Just thought that I would take a break and write you all a little note and add some pics. A couple weekends ago I was down at the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum with my family and friends for Pioneer Day. Friday was the school day, and Saturday was for everyone else. The amount of visitors that we had there, re-enactors, costumes, time period guns, and things for sale was amazing!!! I'm still reeling from all of the history! All I've got to say is this is my kind of life ;) Let me know what you think of the pics!

The Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum

  Well, I finally feel like I've found where I belong! Namely, the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum in Cleburne, Texas.

  The other day when I went job and museum hunting I was introduced to this wonderfully historic and gorgeous museum. The museum sits just on the edge of Lake Cleburne, and is on the site of not only the Chisholm Trail but what used to be the town of Wardville, which was also the county seat. I will be writing a little more in depth on the town and the trail in future posts.

  As of right now I am going to be a school marm in the 1868, white, one room school house. I will be taking one modern day 4th grade class a week and teaching them as if they were a class in the year 1868. I will be dressing in period costume which is one of the things that I am really enjoying! I am posting some pictures at the bottom of this postof my outfits and just some random photos that I took with my cell phone...thus the poor quality.

Queen Anne Style Homes

Howdy! Just dropping in real quick to post some things that I found while unpacking some boxes...yes I'm still unpacking! Anyone who has ever moved knows that sometimes it takes up to or atleast a year to finish unpacking, organizing, and being happy with where you placed things ;) I will stop rambling now and show you what I found...because those boxes really are still waiting for me!

Found this in a mail out from a Real Estate company (Real Estate Agents LaRonda Anderson and Georgina Van Camp, Merit Co. Real Estate)in Colorado Springs. It is from September 2005, it must have impressed me or intrigued me enough to have kept it this long! I'm not sure if these ladies are still agents or if they would care that I'm reposting their information but here goes...I don't own anything!

QUEEN ANNE STYLE

When one thinks of Victorian homes, Queen Anne style usually first comes to mind. This flamboyant and highly decorative style became fashionable in the 1880's and remained popular until 1910.

Queen Anne homes are often considered romantic, even feminine. Yet this style is a product of a rather unromantic time-the industrial revolution. The advances in materials, technology, and transportation enabled pre-fabricated building elements to be easily produced and shipped across the country. This allowed builders to combine different styles and materials to create flamboyant variations of facade styles, colors and textures.

Although easily recognized, Queen Anne style is not easily defined. The main characteristics include assymetrical design, intricate decorative woodwork, prominent porches, a steep roof with projecting gables and rambling floor plans. One of the most prominent characteristics is the corner tower or turret, although it is not always on the corner, and sometimes not present at all. The facade is made of a combination of materials such as brick, wood or stone, and often decorated with shingles and clapboard. The degree of ornamentation distinguishes the high style from the vernacular, with the more modest single-story versions often referred to as Princess Anne.

What made Queen Anne style popular, namely its detailed, decorative features, also caused it to eventually fall out of favor. These homes turned out to be costly and difficult to keep up, and more "down to earth" styles stared gaining popularity in 1910.

On a side note....I will be starting to work with Save Old Cleburne, and trying to volunteer for some organizations around my county and possibly into Historic Fort Worth.
