This Is Who We Are: Episode 2

COWGIRL MUSINGS
Favorite Things and Favorite Smells

Did that title just make you laugh? Favorite smells...hmmm...how do I explain this one? I guess I will start with explaining why my favorite smells doesn't just include apple pie and roses...but barn smells! Barn smells you say?! YES!!!

First I have to explain that country girls are often thought to be just a little tetched in the head because of their love for those frowned upon smells.

Second, it isn't uncommon to see one of us out in the pasture or down wind from the barn taking a deep breath just to capture the moment.

We don't cringe at the smell, sure Bath and Body Works smells nice, but that's a different kind of "nice". Country girls and country boys are all about nature. We take the good with the bad. It makes life that much sweeter.

Every scent evokes memories of days past, or makes us day-dream of the old west, a love not yet found, a horse not yet tamed. We tend to be romantics, I believe it is because we have so much time to think while out working in God's country. Instead of at home in front of the tv, or with a cell phone, on the computer (oh like me right now while I write this ;) heehee!)or just plain cooped up inside. Our imaginations are allowed to run wild.

I'm often asked if it is boring living out in the country, I mean, what do you really do to pass the time? Anyone who has lived on land, owned animals or livestock, or even visited family or friends that own anything of the sort will tell you that you tend to be more busy than not. There is always something to be fixed, something that needs to be fed, groomed, ridden, painted, dug up, planted, etc. But it's the ability to stop and breath in the smell of the dirt or hay for just a minute, choose not to work today because you want to enjoy it, or after a hard days work on your property-sit back and relax and look at the beauty around you and your accomplishments, and thank God for where you are in life and all of the good that He has done that makes life worth it. No sir, it's not boring. It's far from it ;)

Alright, enough of my rambling! Here are some of my favorite things and favorite smells. If you have any questions on anything that I have written or that I write please feel free to comment, I answer every one of them!
